Meet for an hour or so for coffee or whatever, or at the most two for lunch first in a discreet but public place. You absolutely must meet in person before you even think about booking a room.

If you dont feel the chemistry at your first meeting there are no expectations or commitments or risks and you can leave easily without any awkwardness, or, hopefully, fallout.

Definitely don’t book a room for a first meet!
Halitosis, un-trimmed nose/ear hairs, dirty fingernails. unpleasant body odour or poor kissing skills are among the things that cannot be assessed via messages.
If after the initial face to face you still think you want to, then a site like ‘dayuse’ is useful.

I fully concur with all the sensible comments about meeting up first for coffee/tea and a slice of cake first.
If you do opt for the hotel, remember that presently all hotels need to capture details of who is staying for track and trace purposes. I’m not sure I’d want my details available to all and sundry.
Look at rooms from AirbnB would be my preferred approach BUT not for a first time meet with anyone’ I’ve never met before. And I’m a bloke! Be safe is the first rule of IE.
