First date?

What's a good first date idea? It's yonks since I've last been to a restaurant. Work and Life is just SO busy.

Is a restaurant even what you really want to do on a first date anyway?

The first meeting - I always feel is best as a coffee or drink - after work or at lunch time. Just that it gives you a way out if needed - o need to get my train home - or need to get back to work. If there is a spark it gives you the opportunity to stay for one or two more....

I have met one guy for dinner it was awful - I could tell he did not want to be there and it was just ... ugh.

I then consider the next meeting more of a date situation, one chap took me to a gorgeous little French bistro then on to a posh hotel for a post lunch drink - and it was just so nice, then we planned our next proper meet. This time, again pub drink for the first meet which turned in to 3 or 4 (I was on the water as driving) next meet, a few drinks in a nice bar then off to a lovely cosy pub for food and planning our meet - this for me works .....

A walk with dogs if both are dog owners. As long as the dogs don't talk to your other half that is.

First meet only needs to be coffee, a walk, a train ride, a glass of wine, even just a park bench, if you want to go 'retrotastic' like Ria and Leonard aka 'Butterflies' (i'm attempting romance here.) It doesn't even have to be a date. You'll know within an hour. Less. And then skiddaddle. You don't even need to kiss. The feeling you get in your stomach on the drive home tells you what you need to know. That's your gut talking - and not those crazy endorphins.

And definitely stay clear of meets in cars...

Go for a drink.

I met a guy once, I think it was obvious from the outset that we weren't compatible, we had a couple of drinks, a lovely chat, went our separate ways.

As someone else said, be polite, but I understand the grievance when you have made an effort to turn up and the other person is a complete liar!
